Town Reserves lost 3-0 to an experienced Coventry City side at Nuneaton Borough FC last night, but turned in a really good performance in the process.

The Sky Blues' goals came courtesy of a brace from former Town loanee Kevin Kyle, who made the score 1-0 at half-time before netting again on the hour and Striker Donovan Simmonds who scored between Kyle's strikes. The home side was very experienced; featuring David McNamee, Michael Hughes and Rob Page.

However, striker Andy Booth (pictured) could have easily scored a hat-trick in the first-half; having a low shot from the right saved at the near post by 'keeper Danny Ireland before the custodian had to make excellent stops from a trademark headers and a left-foot drive.

Town lined up 3-5-2 as the game kicked-off, with Academy 'keeper Alex Smithies protected by three centre-backs - Shane Killock, Aaron Hardy and Dave Mirfin. Tom Jackson and Danny Racchi were deployed as wing-backs with Jon Worthington, Mitchell Bailey and the slightly advanced Danny Schofield in central midfield. Up front, Booth was partnered by Lucas Akins.

Akins had to be withdrawn after a knock on the ankle midway through the first-half and Dungworth switched to 4-4-2 after the hour mark.

Several other Town players other than Booth went close to scoring, with Academy striker Daniel Broadbent causing problems after his introduction at half-time and Danny Schofield going close on one occasion.

Town's First-Team Coach John Dungworth was quite upbeat due to the performance of his side, despite the defeat.

"In terms of conceding goals, we were obviously not pleased but the scoreline does not give a true reflection of the number of chances we created," John explained to htafc.com.

"There were several good performances in what was a good team performance; Alex Smithies was blameless for all of the goals and played well throughout, Danny Schofield looked sharper than he has done for a while, Boothy led the line well but should have probably scored and Broady caused a few problems too.

"The result flattered them, but it was a very good test for us against a Championship Reserve side featuring several players who were plying their trade in the Premiership not too long ago. With all due respect, it's a much better Reserve game for us than playing Chester or Bradford Reserves was."
