EMLEY vs. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
Town make their second trip to Emley three days for their second competitive pre-season fixture after a solid opener at Bury on Saturday.
Players featured at the Welfare Ground on Sunday for Gerry Murphy's testimonial where the first team played the Academy in a benefit for the Academy manager.
This time, it's a more serious business for manager Stan Ternent, who will have to do without some key players again due to injury and he admitted this morning that no one will be risked:
"We do have a few injury niggles kicking around and there is absolutely no point in risking any of them tonight. If we set anyone back a week in their training then we are just creating unnecessary problems, so everyone will have to be 100%.
"All the lads who were carrying niggles from Saturday worked with Ian Liversedge (the new physio) yesterday and we will have a look at them before we go up to Emley, but no-one will be risked when we've got the Hartlepool tournament coming up this weekend and the opportunity to play behind closed doors as well before we play Sheffield United at home a week on Saturday."
It means then that Town fans will to have to wait to get a first glimpse of new midfield signing Jim Goodwin after seeing the other new signings, Andy Butler, Keigan Parker and Chris Lucketti at Bury on Saturday. The 26-year-old Irishman Goodwin sits out with a thigh strain.
Also missing from tonight's game against Ian Banks' Northern Counties East League side will be Jon Worthington and trialist Tony Grant (both hamstring) and striker Andy Booth (back).
Trialist goalkeeper Paul Gerrard, who played the second half at Gigg Lane on Saturday, has suffered a groin niggle in training and will have a late-afternoon fitness. It could mean young England keeper Alex Smithies will be in action after Ternent put him on stand-by for the game as the Gaffer plans to use as many fit players as possible after fielding 20 in the opening friendly at Gigg Lane.
