BERRETT SIGNS TWO YEAR DEAL
19-year old Town midfielder James Berrett has signed a new contract that will see him stay at the Galpharm Stadium until the summer of 2010.
The promising Academy graduate has impressed since breaking into the first-team in January and based on the 12 starts he has made so far looks set to have a big future ahead of him.
Berrett's signature now means that manager Stan Ternent has secured all three players on his retained list - Berrett, Joe Skarz and Matt Glennon - as well as Andy Booth a week previously and he told htafc.com that he is delighted to have secured the four players so quickly.
"I am happy he has signed and very pleased to have tied our entire retained list up so quickly," Stan told us. "James has made excellent progress in the last three to four months but it is now up to him to ensure that continues."
James is flying out to Malaysia along with Town teammate Michael Collins today to play in the Intercontinental Cup tournament for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side, but he managed to speak to the official website before jetting out of the country.
"I'm really pleased to have my contract sorted before I go to Malaysia, as I don't have to think about it now - I can just concentrate on my football," Berrett explained.
"It was nice to know that the Gaffer wanted me to stay and it's all gone through quickly. It's now up to me to force my way into the team when the season starts."
