BUSY TIMES FOR TERNENT
htafc.com caught up with manager Stan Ternent after he watched the 1-0 win at Luton this afternoon to get his views on the end to the season and to find out the latest on the Rob Page situation.
"It's been a bit hectic, but the players have won two games," Stan said of the end of the season. "There's no pressure on at the moment and its end of season stuff tempo-wise, but they've done very well - you can't do any better than win and they have deserved to win both. It's been good to keep two clean sheets, but I think everybody is ready for a holiday now.
"I've been very busy; we've been negotiating some contracts and figuring out the retained list while at the same time getting to know everyone."
The official website broke the news about Rob Page yesterday evening and Stan cleared up the situation following the 1-0 win.
"I asked Rob to go away and come back to me about what type of deal he wanted here, in terms of length of contract and remuneration. However, yesterday Gerry called me to say he was signing for Chesterfield. It seems obvious that has been an ongoing negotiation - it doesn't just happen that quickly - so we haven't had chance to make him an offer. If he doesn't want to play for us that's fine and I wish him well; apparently he's done well here. I would have liked the opportunity to speak to him, but there you go; he lives on that side of Sheffield and he can now fall out of bed and into Chesterfield, so perhaps that has something to do with it.
"He's certainly replaceable and we have to move on. The most important thing is the football club and it will certainly be here for a long time after Rob Page, Stan Ternent and everybody else."
The new boss also explained what happens now the 46 games of the 2007/08 season have been played.
"The players will report in on Tuesday at 10am. I have a board meeting before that but I will give them all their closed-season training schedules and ask them for a timetable of where they are and when. I'll tell the lads when they have to report back and instruct them all to have a really good rest, as they've earned it. We've got a lot of hard work ahead of us in pre-season.
"We need to get a good, strong squad together and I'll be busy doing deals over the summer. Most of the lads are contracted but I have to sort Matty Glennon out, which I think I'm fairly close to doing. I wanted to do Pagey but he's decided he wants to go somewhere else. The players who are going already know, but the retained list will be announced on Tuesday."
